Dr Alex Hillman

I am Associate Professor in Sociology. Following my doctoral study at Cardiff University, I worked as a researcher on projects related to medicine and health and then more specifically on projects related to aging, older people and health. My first independent study was a postdoctoral project funded by the Wellcome trust, to explore the social and ethical aspects of dementia diagnosis. I have since worked as a Co-Investigator on the IDEAL programme, a decade long programme of research into the experiences of people living with dementia. I joined Exeter in April 2023 via a position in the Wellcome Centre for Cultures and Environments of Health .
