Michael is an Assistant Professor in Computational Social Science at the University of Exeter. His work focuses on applying quantitative methods to address various questions in the social sciences. He has been collaborating with international organizations such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
As a social data scientist, he specializes in causal inference and machine learning techniques. He has taught a wide range of courses at undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, covering topics such as causal inference, computational programming, and machine learning.
Prior to his current position, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Methodology at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, funded by All Souls College and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
He is an affiliated fellow at the Department of Methodology at LSE, the LSE Data Science Institute, and the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at the University of Oxford.
