Dr Martin Moorby

I am a Lecturer in Politics and a member of Exeter's Centre of Political Thought, where I completed my Ph.D. in political theory, having previous studying MA in History of Political Thought (also at Exeter) and BA PPE (Warwick).

My research interests are broadly in history of political thought, contemporary political theory, and political philosophy. More specifically my work is situated in the history of the global political Left, Marx and Marxist theory, critical theory, as well as concepts of alienation and power. This is reflected in my teaching for POL3248 'Marxism(s) and International Relations', POL3337 'Political Thought of the 20th Century', and  POL2059 'Political Thought of Modernity', as well as other modules. I am happy to supervise dissertation students for POL3040 or POLM886 who have overlapping interests.

I have nominated numerous times for Student Guild Teaching Awards, most recently in 2020 for 'Outstanding Pastoral Support.'

Since 2024 I have acted as PTA Coordinator/Line Manager for Politics and International Relations.
